Counselling Support

When you learn that there are medical complications with your pregnancy, you may feel...

  • shocked
  • numb
  • scared
  • sad
  • anxious
  • angry
  • helpless
  • ...or a range of other emotions

Having to make decisions may make these feelings stronger...

Feeling OVERWHELMED? Who can you turn to?

  • your partner
  • family
  • friends
  • spiritual supports
  • community contacts
  • another parent
  • a counsellor
  • your doctor
  • your nurse
  • other medical professionals

Counselling provided by trained and experienced social workers is available through the Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinic and the Prenatal Genetics Clinic for couples, families and people like yourself.

We can help you with any or all of the following:

  • decision-making
  • preparing you for the hospital experience
  • sharing your news (how, what, to whom, when)
  • coping with responses (children, family, friends, co-workers)
  • providing information about community services
  • counselling; now and in the future
